Hi everyone

First of all I would like to compliment on this nice website, it is really great to see the dry eye community grow over the internet to share our experiances and be there for each other.

The reason why I visited this website is for the same reason as everyone else, I simply need some help with my dry eyes. I have undergone lasik surgery in 2006 and have since been suffering from dry eyes as confirmed by the eye hospital.

I have been suffering from severe sinus pain for the past 16 months or so and am starting to understand the main cause of it.

After trying everying in the book as a cure for sinusitis, someone said to me that it could be my eyes which had got me thinking and trying.

While suffering from severe sinus pain one day, I tried something new which was some of my good old eye drops and as soon as I felt the dryness dissapear from deep within my eyes so did my sinus pain.

Sin then, I have been taking the eye drops whenever I get the sinus pain. I have tried honey and olive oil with little success.

There seems to be something not right behind my eyes which needs some attention.

Is there anyone out there who has ever experianced the same or anyone else who might be able to shed some light into finding the right solution.

Thanx for all the feedback,
wali

Dear Wali
Im sorry that you havent had a reply or any suggestions yet from our forum members. I think that your Lasik caused dry eye problem together with sinus pain is rather uncommon so no-one has any relevant personal experience. Im afriad we have to advise you to try your eye specialist (or perhaps try another one) to sort this out. Take care, and thanks for your compliments about our website!

Hi,

just read you post - I had Lasik 14 months ago and as well as the dry eye I get a deep pain at the back of my eyes like toothache/headache that never goes away.  It is like wearing a very tight pair of swimming goggles all the time.  I have been back and forth to my consultant the most recently last Thursday, but he never can give me an explanation for it.  I must admit I have never tried any sinus medication but might try some.

best wishes

CryHello
I have just joined this website and posted about not only dry eye but the pain I get in the actual eye and cheek bones etc.  My GP says that dry eyes shouldn't cause the pain I am getting so is sending me for a sinus scan.

Thing is, I get the eye pain same time as the sinus pain and my eye balls feel "bruised" deep inside.  It hurts to "look around" whilst my eyelids are closed.  The nerves in the eye are connected to all of our face and I never seem to get one without the other so in my layman's simplicity I can only connect the two.

I find if the eye trouble stops by my keep putting drops in more regularly, then so does the pain in my face, nose cheekbones.  I only get it on the side where they eye troubles me.

I have had no replies to my question either Cry

How have you improved since your last post?

Hi Jules,

What a great description of the pain, spot on!  Yes, I have improved somewhat, either that or I have become so used to the pain, it now doesn't seem too bad, lol.  I have been using an over the counter nasal spray recommended by my GP called Beconase, it says hayfever relief on the box but GP said it is for sinus probs.  It seems to help a bit.  Hope you get some relief.

Hello Kitty
I am glad you have found some relife - or just got used to it whatever it is !

Can I just ask, did you think the sinus pain was connected to the eye pain or do you see it as separate problems?

I have been so worried as the pain doesnt seem the same as the descriptions on the website.  I have had conflicting information both of which make sense.  I am going to see the optician on Saturday because I can't stand the worry any more.  I keep thinking there must be something awful happening to my eye if the symptoms are so different to everyone else.   Thank you for your reply.
Best wishes.

Hi Jules,

My GP says the sinus pain is connected to the dry eye syndrome as the nerve endings are all connected.  I certainly never suffered with sinus trouble before the dry eye.  I am sure you don't have anything horrible going on but will be good to get checked out with optician to put your mind at rest.  Have you tried putting a warm compress across your eyes/forehead.  When my eye sockets just ache like mad, this is quite soothing.

best wishes Smile

Hi Kitty
Thank you for being my "lifeline" at the moment.  If you haven't had dry eye I think most people have the impression that its just a bit of a gritty feeling with stickiness.

I do lay in bed at times first thing in the morning to calmly assess where the pain is.  I always feel it as I wake up in the mornings.  It seems to move about but I also think what contributes to it is the tension I hold in my face which makes the cheek and temple muscles ache too.  I think the worry is worse than the pain lol!

I have tried the cupping of my palms over my eyes but the warm compress sounds like an idea I will try.  Who would have thought this much pain could come from lack of lubrication in the eyes.  I guess I am getting older as well now and moisture  of eyes, nose etc is apparently one of the many things to wear out!!!  Luvverly!

Many thanks again

Hi Jules,

I really know how you feel, I don't even bother any more trying to explain to people because, as you say, unless you experience it, no-one can believe the eyes could cause so much pain.  The response is usually, 'oh, put some water in them then'!!  Besides the actual eye pain, it is like a constant headache all over head and face aaarrrgghh.  Best wishes.
