Hi
Please can you tell me what the large  tube of viscotears is called? I use small preservative free viscotears phials at night but find them diff to extract form the phial bottle and at about 3am struggling to renew my dried up eyes with the remaining gel just  adds to the frustration and does not help with gettting bPck to sleep again!
I am post menopausal and taking theratears nutrition, still struggling  tho'!
Good luck - we sure need it!

Posie, I have no adverse effects from the doxy, as long as I wash it down with plenty of water (otherwise it can give indigestion-like symptoms).  It takes several weeks for symptoms to return if I stop them.

I've tried dozens of eye drops and they all have the same problem - after the initial liquid has dried up, the powdery residue left over irritates my lids, so I have to wash them.  Then I need more drops and the cycle continues!  Minims artificial tears are best for be because they are so thin there is little residue, but I have to use them quite often for the same reason!

Please describe rosacea - its not something I've ever been told I have!

Hi,
I did get some nausaea at first but also have plenty of water so this alleviates - but it is the long term effects that I would like to know more about.
Minims are no good for me - much too thin!  They only last about 5 mins before I need more drops!  How often do you have to use them? Drops are oneof the areas folks like us need more advice from medics about what may help our particular eye condition and what type of drops can help - otherwise it can be a long and frustrating and lonely trial and error journey down the eye drop path. For me the best drops that seem to feel better are theratears are not available on NHS and I can't afford to keep using them.   I am sure you will not have rosacea - this is a skin condition which often then affects the eyes.  Loads of info on internet. I am taking doxy esp for this but it is coming back fast now I have reduced dosage and will prob have to increase dose again as coping with horrid feeling eyes and lumps and spots  on my face begins to push me over the edge!
All  the best

Hi to all fellow Blepharitis sufferers,

I have suffered from this nasty infection for about 15 years.

I too at first tried everything available but to no avail. I have long ago resigned myself that I will always suffer from this.

In the early months and years I sought advice from many specialists, but none were very helpfull.

These days I try to manage with a routine of warm compress's and eyelid hygene.

I have good days and bad days like everyone else, and I am now quite used to people saying " oh whats wrong with you eyes", and then go through the explination one more time!

haven't tried the mask yet but I might give it a go.

Regards
Phillip

Hi, there is a connection between Rosacea and blepharitis which is sometimes missed.

As I understand Rosacea is an inflammatory reaction and occurs mainly on the face and can affect the eyes.   The symptoms are different for each person as is the treatment.   Some get flushes that can become permanent redness.  Some suffer with papules and pustules as well as redness or only those.   Then some people have red lines (blood vessels) with all of the above or just by themselves.    I have read that sometimes people don't show symptoms of Rosacea on the face but only in the eyes.   This is a chronic condition that has to be managed rather then cured.   I have read too that it is better to manage it rather then leave it as it tends to get worse.      Hopefully this is not what you have.

Hi, I've been told by the optician that I have blepharitis and that it will not go away but can he treated.  She suggested artificial tears and hot flannels and baby shampoo. I have been trying these methods and the combination of all ( not the baby shampoo)  does help.  I find that instead of buying the rather expensive eye bag I put a flannel in the microwave for 30 seconds and this is excellent!

I have found that if my eye feels a little wet after doing the treatments then I think it has worked.  The treatments have to melt and sweep away the dry cells so that the oil naturally ocurring on the rims of the eyes is free to lubricate and mix with the tears .  If the tears cannot produce a moist film over the eye then the result is dry eyes.  I found this info on the internet.

I have discovered that if use my eye drops (i have glaucoma) and then use the the eye bag it is soothing. After i started using the eye mask i changed doctor at clinic as the one i had left and he recommended it to me and i explained that i am already using it. I also use the wipes.
